Jujutsu Kaisen is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Gege Akutami. It has been serialized in Shueisha’s Weekly Shōnen Jump magazine since March 2018, with its chapters collected in seventeen tankōbon volumes as of October 2020. The story follows Yuji Itadori, a high school student who joins the Occult Research Club in order to avoid having to do PE. After consuming a finger belonging to the club’s president, Megumi Fushiguro, he ends up becoming possessed by a cursed spirit. As a result, he is recruited by the Tokyo Metropolitan Curse Technical Expert Division, a group of Jujutsu sorcerers who combat curses, to help them track down and destroy the powerful curses that have begun appearing in the city.

Jujutsu Kaisen has been well received by readers, with the manga selling over five million copies in Japan as of March 2020. It received the Shogakukan Manga Award for the shōnen demographic in 2019. An anime television series adaptation by MAPPA aired on MBS, TBS, and other Japan News Network stations from October 2020 to March 2021.

The story of Jujutsu Kaisen is set in a world where human beings can be possessed by evil spirits known as “curses.” These curses can be passed on to other humans through physical contact, and can cause great harm to both the victim and the curse-bearer. To combat this threat, a special school known as the Tokyo Metropolitan Curse Technical College trains students in the art of jujutsu, which allows them to fight and exorcise curses.

In the story, we follow Yuji Itadori, a high school student who has a natural affinity for curses. When his grandfather, a legendary jujutsu sorcerer, dies, Yuji inherits his powers. However, when he tries to use them to save his friend from a curse, he accidentally absorbs the curse himself. Now, with the help of his fellow students, Yuji must learn to control his new powers and stop the curses from spreading.
