Puella Magi Madoka Magica

Puella Magi Madoka Magica is a 2011 anime series produced by Shaft and Aniplex. The series was directed by Akiyuki Shinbo, with script supervision by Gen Urobuchi, character designs by Ume Aoki, and music composed by Yuki Kajiura. The 12-episode series aired in Japan on MBS and TBS from January to April 2011. A manga adaptation by Hanokage began serialization in Houbunsha’s Manga Time Kirara Magica in June 2011, and a novelization by Nitroplus was published in August 2011. Three separate original video animation episodes were shipped starting from October 2011.

The story revolves around Madoka Kaname, a girl who offered to become a magical girl and have any one wish granted in exchange for fighting witches, evil creatures born from human souls. She is joined by other magical girls, the most prominent being Mami Tomoe, an experienced magical girl who takes Madoka under her wing, and Sayaka Miki, Madoka’s best friend who becomes a magical girl to heal the hand of a boy she likes. The story of Puella Magi Madoka Magica revolves around a group of young girls who are granted magical powers in exchange for making a wish. These girls, known as “magical girls,” are then tasked with fighting against evil creatures known as Witches. However, as the girls begin to fight, they also start to realize the dark truth behind their powers.
